What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with treatment and care of root canal pain and discomfort.  Its practice includes complete understanding of the biology of the normal pulp, diagnosing, testing, and removing infected root canal tissue, and treatment of diseases and injuries of the pulp and associated peri-radicular conditions.

Endodontists perform root canal treatments to help prevent, or cure dental problems and even dental pain.  Endodontist’s use Root Canal Treatment, Endodontic Retreatment, and Apicoectomy Surgery in order to treat dental pain, or help eliminate infection and abcesses.

Root Canal treatment is designed to help eliminate infection, and/or root canal pain.  A skilled Endodontist is best suited for this since they typically have much more training than a general dentist would.  Although this procedure is feared by many, it can be relatively pain free when done early, gently and correctly!
